Customers Refuse to pay in Dutch Greek Restaurants

Greek restaurants in the Netherlands regularly suffer from Dutch customers who refuse to pay because they say that the Netherlands has already paid to Greece via the European Union. Pavlos Kerasavopoulos of the Federation of Greek Communities in the Netherlands has said this. He added that the EU countries which criticize Greece should look into the mirror. He added that the Dutch knew that there was a problem with Greece when it entered the Eurozone, but they thought that the more countries which participated, the better it would be for Dutch trade and exports. So they shouldn’t make such a fuss afterwards.

Jews Suffer More Verbal Abuse on Dutch Streets

Jews in the Netherlands were verbally abused more often in 2011 than in 2010. Twenty-eight incidents were reported in 2011 according to the Center for Information and Documentation on Israel (CIDI), compared to 9 cases in 2010. In 2009, there were twenty incidents reported, many of which were related to Israeli army actions in Gaza. Many of those who report verbal abuse say that this has been happening already for years, but the number of incidents has increased in recent years. CIDI expressed its concern that many people who suffer from verbal abuse no longer report it because they assume that the perpetrators cannot be found, as they are unknown to the victims.

Court Decision: Controversial Imam should be readmitted to Mosque

Controversial Imam Sheikh Fawaz Jneid has to be given access again immediately to the As-Soennah mosque in The Hague. The board of the mosque has to lift his suspension so that he can preach again as an Imam. This was decided by a judge after Jneid had taken the board of the mosque to court. Otherwise, if the board doesn’t follow the court decision, it risks penalty of up to 30,000 Euro. The Imam became known nationally after he allegedly said about the Dutch media maker Theo van Gogh, who was later murdered: “Oh Lord, give van Gogh a sickness which cannot be cured by all inhabitants in the world.” Jneid says that he is more moderate today.

Dutch Monitor of Human Trafficking Criticizes Minister

Corinne Dettmeyer, the Dutch monitor on human trafficking has criticized the shortening of the time in which victims of human trafficking are entitled to register complaints. The proposal of the Minister of Immigration Gerd Leers (Christian Democrat) is that such complaints can only be registered during three months after they have been liberated from this situation. Dettmeyer thinks that this contradicts the European treaty on human trafficking. She said that the time period should be longer, because prostitutes who are the victims of human trafficking are often reluctant to contact the police.

Minister: Risk that Sharia4 group Radicalizes Further

Ivo Opstelten, Minister of Security and Justice (Liberal Party) said that there is a risk that members of the Sharia4 Holland group have radicalized and that members from its core will become violent. Members of the group held a demonstration last Saturday in front of the national monument at the Dam Square in Amsterdam. Spokesman of the movement, Abu Qaasim called Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders “a dog of the Romans” and said that “we will deal with him when in the Netherlands an Islamic state will be established.” He advised Wilders to learn from what happened to Theo van Gogh (a Dutch media maker who was murdered in 2004 by the radical Muslim Mohammed Bouyeri). Opstelten said that there is no reason to prohibit the movement, as it has no legal status. There is also no reason to expel individual members of the movement, or to take their Dutch nationality away. He added that members are “watched.”
